Description: This image is from the Selkirk Mountains west of Kaslo, British Columbia. The area is one of my fovorite palces for snowshoeing, the snow is always deep and the climate is mild (by Alberta winter standards at least). I happened to pick one of the coldest weeks of the winter to visit. On this morning the temperature was -25 and it was still dark when I arrived. By the time I got set up it was getting rather light and the sun was just cresting over the Monashee Range to the east. The fog patches from the spring fed river were eerily disappearing into the trees on the north side of the river. This was the first image of the day and only about 1,000 feet from my truck; unfortunately I managed to leave my snowshoes at the cabin so I had to fight through the deep snow. It took me a bit over 3 hours to get my camera down to the river and back. I started about an hour before sunrise and at one point I thought I was going to miss the light. The week turned out to be very generous for photography with good light and some great clouds.
